⢠Describe the current stroke pathway within GHT, including key timelines and decision points.
⢠Explain when and how to refer patients with suspected stroke appropriately, in line with the GHT pathway.
⢠Apply the stroke referral pathway to clinical case scenarios, demonstrating how newer acute treatments (e.g. thrombectomy, extended thrombolysis windows) have changed stroke care.
⢠Outline evidence-based secondary prevention strategies following stroke, including risk factor modification and pharmacological management.
⢠Manage common stroke sequelae, incorporating recommended follow up and multidisciplinary approaches.
⢠Recognise and manage cerebral haemorrhages, including updates in the assessment and treatment of intracerebral haemorrhage.
⢠Explain the role and implications of Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy in haemorrhagic stroke and ongoing management.
⢠Identify and follow TIA pathways, applying risk stratification and management principles to case-based scenarios.

Kate has worked as a consultant in Stroke and Care of the Elderly medicine at GHT since 2006. Over that time, Stroke services have transformed with improvements in treatment options, including delivery of thrombolysis and thrombectomy, and she has helped redesign the service across the county on numerous occasions to meet the needs of the patients. The most recent redesign in 2022 has created the current Non-ED-direct-admission Stroke pathway based in Cheltenham General Hospital. She is also the Deputy Medical Director at GHT, responsible for leading improvements in patient flow across the Trust as well as many other pieces of work to ensure collaboration across the county, keeping compassionate patient care at the centre of all we do.
