By the end of this session, learners will be able to:
⢠Interpret SFLC and paraprotein results, and recognise when MGUS monitoring findings are concerning.
⢠Identify causes, initial investigations, and referral thresholds for polycythaemia and thrombocytosis.
⢠Assess unprovoked thrombosis, including appropriate investigation and anticoagulation planning.
⢠Evaluate anaemia and thrombocytopenia in primary care.
⢠Recognise features of CLL and understand when specialist referral is indicated.

I have been a Consultant Haematologist locally for nearly 27 years. I trained in haematology at UCH/Royal free Hospital London and the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. I currently specialise in caring for patients with Myeloproliferative neoplasms /CML and Myeloma/ other plasma cell dyscrasias. I am an active supporter of clinical trials both NIHR and commercial and help run a large number of studies within the department. I am the Trust haematology VTE lead and sit on the trust VTE committee, having had a wealth of experience in VTE thromboprophylaxis and anticoagulation in secondary care over the past 2 decades. I am departmental lead for Clinical audit and quality improvement and Clinical Governance/mortality.
