About the speaker

Dr Ian Shaw
Consultant Gastroenterologist & General Physician, GHNHSFT

Dr Shaw is currently the Trust Clinical Lead for IBD and has a particular interest in the diagnosis and treatment of luminal gastroenterology (conditions that affect the gut). He is also the Clinical Lead for the Non SIte Specific Symptom Cancer Exclusion Service. He has previously held posts including Chief of Service Medicine in the Trust and National Clinical Lead for Inflammatory Bowel Disease at the Royal College of Physicians

His particular areas of expertise include:

Raina O'Mahony
Raina O’Mahony
Specialist Gastroenterology Dietitian and Team Lead, GHNHSFT

Raina is a gastroenterology specialist dietitian with seven years of experience supporting patients with complex digestive conditions. She co leads the Refractory IBS Service alongside consultant gastroenterologist Dr Alex di Mambro, providing advanced, multidisciplinary care for patients whose symptoms persist despite first line advice.

Her clinical practice is driven by a passion for empowering individuals to understand their condition, identify food intolerances, and make sustainable dietary changes that meaningfully improve quality of life. She has extensive experience supporting patients with IBS, IBD, and other complex gastrointestinal conditions, bringing a blend of evidence based practice and compassionate, patient centred care.

Beyond her clinical work, she is an active member of the British Dietetic Association and currently serves as Education Lead for the Gastroenterology Specialist Group, contributing to national training and professional development in gastroenterology dietetics.
