Emergency Medicine Study Day

Drs Davies & Loffhagen Consultant in Emergency Medicine & Mr Ben King, Senior Resuscitation Officer

This study day will look at the interface between Primary Care, Out of Hours and the Emergency Department. It will offer an update in clinical topics common to these areas.
Places are limited to General Practitioners only 18 places available.

Contraception Drs Pillai & Shefras The session will be to understand when to precribe LARCs and to whom to discuss complex or difficult cases learn about recent changes in contraceptive use and prescribing. Know about new ways of using pills and preventing bleeding

GP Essential Knowledge Update

Dr Martyn Hewett
An informal and lively presentation of the RCGP's Essential Knowledge Update - this provides GPs with a six-monthly focused update on selected items of new and changing knowledge central to everyday practice. There will be opportunity to discuss the material presented and ideas to encourage effective application of the knowledge. Topics will include:
Major items:

  • Management of patients with Stroke or TIA
  • Recognition and Assessment of Coeliac Disease
  • Newer agents for Blood Glucose Control in Type 2 diabetes

Briefings on:

  • Macrogol based laxatives in children
  • Systemic corticosteroids for COPD
  • Comparative efficacy of 12 New Generation Antidepressant
Monday 22nd February 2010 (All-day, lunch provided)
Sports Medicine

Alison Tavare
The session will cover:

  • Being able to diagnose common sports injuries confidently
  • Being able to advise patients on simple exercises for treatment
  • Having opportunity to examine patients in small groups with feedback
  • Knowing when to refer patients with more complex problems
